THE PEACE OF GOD
"Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee." Isaiah 26:3
One of mankind's greatest desires is to have peace. It can be elusive at times, given the busyness of our lives and the pressures life bring us! Families that are in conflict, money that is scarce, jobs, issues with health, aging parents, raising children, and trying to make time for all the demands on us can lead to frustration and anxiety. But we can have peace in our lives in spite of all those concerns that would try to steal it away. In the verse above two things stand out in order to have peace: First; "whose mind is stayed on thee" and "he trusteth in thee". This tells me that to have a peaceful mind we must keep our mind, or our thinking, on God and we must trust in Him. When we "cast all of our cares on Him," 1st Peter 5:7, we ask Him to take those things that concern us and then believe that He will work them out for us. God cares! Paul tells in the book of Philippians, "Be careful [anxious] for nothing; but in everything by prayer and supplication let your requests be made known unto God, and the peace of God, which passeth all understanding , shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus." When anxiety tries to take over us, and peace is slipping away, we must take a moment to bring our focus back to God. Bring your concern to the Lord in prayer. Ask Him to take it and work it out. Then leave it there. Don't take it back by constantly worrying about it. Anxiety, worry, and fear try to take over when we do not trust God and we forget that he cares. Shift your thinking from anxious thoughts to thoughts about God and his goodness and concern for you. Remember, "The Lord will perfect that which concerneth me;" Psalm 138:8.
We pray: "May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit." Romans 15:13
God bless you!
